| for our engines. Leave them clear if you want, or be able to paint on the inside your choice of color without having to worry about scratching the paint..... It really is kindof pointless to make the covers easy to remove without having to take the coolant pipes off. Most people that have to remove those covers are in there to do a 60K job, which includes replacing the thermostat and the two rubber hoses connecting the upper pipe to the heads. If you have to go in there for something else and do whatever it is frequently enough to come up with an idea to make the covers removable without taking those pipes off, then you are doing something wrong. :) If you are just looking to find a solution to verify that the timing belt hasn't skipped and that the crank/cams are all in proper time, you could drill 1/2" holes in the covers where the cam sprockets line up to the mark on the rear metal plates and use a small flush rubber plug to cap the holes. But again, if you are having problems with the timing belt skipping teeth enough times that you consider punching inspection holes then you might want to consider addressing the problem rather than creating a simple way to find it. :) If you perform the scheduled maintenance as per the FSM and use genuine Nissan OEM parts in the process, you can be nearly 100% certain you aren't going to have any problems with the parts... There are far more things to concern yourself with when it comes to longevity other than repetitive inspection of your timing belt. :)
